About Us

Inspired by the name of a favorite public broadcasting reporter, Fodenvensel Studios is the travel blog of Austin and David, a couple from Portland, Oregon who left their social work-ish jobs in the name of longterm international travel and the quest for good coffee and foreign snacks. Both ever seeking greater personal development and learning of all kinds, they search out meaningful work and personal interactions by volunteering and housesitting wherever they go. This also makes their travels more affordable.

The writing herein is a collaborative effort of Austin and David while the photography and videography are the product of David’s skillful eye alone. Austin is usually responsible for cleaning, baking and finding the cheapest airfare while David prefers cooking, selecting the perfect music for any given moment, drinking coffee and has a talent for finding great accommodation within their budget.

You are invited to take your shoes off and make yourself comfortable. Stick around awhile and peruse this little corner of the Internet. Feedback and comments are always welcome (they would love to hear from you!) as are any recommendations or invitations.

  1. Oh David, I’m so happy for you. You are such a brilliant, beautiful man. Enjoy your travels abroad with the lovely Austin. Can’t wait to read and see more. Love you, Sue & Mark

  2. Hi David and Austin! David and I were colleagues in graduate school, and he is a kind hearted, gentle, playful, trustworthy, creative, witty, intelligent and delightful person. I am lucky to have known him, and I know everyone he crosses paths with abroad will benefit from knowing him as well. Warm Wishes, Jessica 🙂

  3. Hi Austin and Dave, Jess’s mum here… Chantelle told me about your blog, and I enjoyed reading it. I realize I’m bit behind the times but I look forward to following your travels. And, as the Irish are fond of saying:
“May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
    And until we meet again,
May [the universe] hold you in the palm of [its] hand.”
    Good health!
    Jo Anne

    • Jo Anne, hi! What a sweet surprise!

I’m glad Chantelle shared our blog with you and even better that you are enjoying it. I hope you’ll feel inspired to read along as we continue.
Thanks so much for your warm wishes. I hope you and the Tenzer family are all well. Sending a big hug to you (and one to Jessica when next you see her!),

    • Thanks, Evan! Your endorsement means a lot to us! We loved meeting up with you in Hampi and look forward to seeing you the next time. Maybe we can try to diversify our restaurant choices, but no guarantees.
      Stay excellent!
      Austin & David
